Meet the Team

 Caroline Pearce | Audio Biographer

My job as an audio biographer is to guide my clients through the preparation and recording process, and to ensure they feel relaxed and at ease while I listen with attentive, sensitive ears. My style is to encourage gently, prompting where appropriate, to ensure each client feels heard, listened to and valued. Clients choose what they'd like to share - the agenda is all theirs, never mine; I take my cue from them. Above all, my goal is to make the whole process enjoyable, ensuring treasured family stories and memories are preserved while capturing the essence of the person in the voice recording.

As a biographer I am drawn to stories of families, relationships, life-altering experiences: ordinary as well as extraordinary lives. I have always enjoyed connecting with people and hearing their stories, both in my personal and professional life. Studying for an MA in Biography & Creative Non-Fiction at the University of East Anglia helped to develop my interviewing and listening skills and I am delighted to be able to use these abilities in developing my work with The Audio Biographers

My experience in public relations and as a ghost writer of autobiographies has led me to telling the stories of people from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities, many on sensitive topics: a Holocaust survivor who spoke about the tattooed number on her arm, a GI baby searching for his American father, a Barnardo’s child fostered during the Second World War, a Polish woman who spent her childhood in a Siberian camp, a German woman who was born in 1940s Berlin, and many many more. I have interviewed people from many walks of life including young volunteers, members of a religious community, business owners and corporate clients.

It is a great privilege to gain the trust of my clients so they feel safe and comfortable in sharing stories from their lives. Being an audio biographer means I help individuals and families to preserve their precious stories and memories, as told in their own voices - a powerful and lasting gift for their loved ones.

Mike Tibble Story Editor, Technical Support

I am an electronics engineer by training, and for most of my working life have been employed in the publishing sector, developing new products and services for printed and electronic publications and online media.

I have always been interested in the idea of recording people’s life stories to make them available for future generations to listen to, enjoy and learn from. The availability of portable digital recording equipment and PC-based editing software has made this process efficient, flexible, and interesting. Audio life stories can be tailored to the individual needs of our clients, using professional recording techniques.

My main role within The Audio Biographers is to edit our clients’ stories once they have been recorded as well as providing technical support to Caroline in her use of digital recording equipment. My training with the Oral History Society, along with my career experience, has given me all the technical skills required to edit and refine audio biographies.
