What is an audio biography?

An audio biography captures people's recollections and stories from their lives by recording their voices. In this way their memories can be preserved in a digital format for listening to now and in the future.

Each person's voice is unique, with its own inflections and characteristics, and the sound of their voice - whether speaking, laughing or singing - provides an incredibly powerful way of remembering them. An audio biography captures people's recollections and stories from their lives by recording their voices. In this way their memories can be preserved in a digital format for listening to now and in the future.

Whether recalling stories of childhood capers, adventures as an adult, travel experiences etc, an audio biography provides a way of evoking a person's essence, ensuring their character and laughter are preserved for their loved ones to hear, now and in the future.

Caroline prepares for each recording session by first gathering information from the client, helping them to consider what aspect of their lives they wish to share.  Using a lightly-structured approach, recording sessions are usually carried out in the person's home or over Zoom, each session lasting up to three hours.

Professional recording and editing equipment are used to ensure high sound quality, whether in person or via video call. After the recording session, the audio is sent to Mike so he can work his editing magic, eliminating unwanted sounds, pauses, 'ums' and 'ahs' as much as possible.

The edited sound file is copied onto a USB stick and delivered in a beautifully crafted bespoke maple gift box. It is then available to share and download, making it possible to listen to it almost anywhere.

With more than thirty years' experience of listening to people's stories, Caroline has the empathy and gentle manner that make the recording process feel more like a chat wtih a trusted friend - usually with some laughs and perhaps a few tears. Caroline feels privileged to hear people recounting what matters to them for the people who matter to them, working with clients to shape the stories they want to tell, for their own interest or to share with family and friends.
