Our biographers

 Caroline Pearce | Audio Biographer

As a biographer I am drawn to stories of families, relationships, life-altering experiences: ordinary as well as extraordinary lives. I have always enjoyed meeting people and hearing their stories, both in my personal and professional life. Studying for an MA in Biography & Creative Non-Fiction at the University of East Anglia helped to develop my interviewing and listening skills and I am delighted to be able to use these abilities in working with The Audio Biographers

My work has led me to tell stories with people from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities, many on sensitive topics: a Holocaust survivor who spoke about the tattooed number on her arm, a GI baby searching for  his American father, a Barnardo’s child fostered during the Second World War, and a Polish woman who spent her childhood in a Siberian camp. I have interviewed people from many walks of life, including young charity volunteers, members of a religious community, business owners, and corporate clients. It is a great privilege to gain the trust of my clients so they feel safe and comfortable in sharing stories from their lives.

Mike Tibble Story Editor, Technical Support

I am an electronics engineer by training, and for most of my working life have been employed in the publishing sector, developing new products and services for printed and electronic publications and online media.

I have always been interested in the idea of recording people’s life stories to make them available for future generations to listen to, enjoy and learn from. The availability of portable digital recording equipment and PC-based editing software has made this process efficient, flexible, and interesting. Audio life stories can be tailored to the individual needs of our clients, using professional recording techniques, as an alternative to providing written stories.

As a member of the Oral History Society, I have completed several training and workshop sessions to develop my skills as an audio biographer, including interview techniques, ethics, recording equipment and digital editing.

My main role within The Audio Biographers is to edit our clients’ stories once they have been recorded by our team of biographers. I also provide technical support to the team in their use of digital recording equipment and to our clients with answering any questions they may have about our products and services.

Diana Tibble | Advisor

During my working life I have worked in the caring and therapeutic professions: as a state registered nurse in a medical ward and a hospice, as a midwife, and for thirty years as a counsellor and trauma therapist. I have met hundreds of people, all with unique and individual stories to tell, stories that are important to our families and friends, and to generations to come. Some people have extraordinary life experiences, and some people believe their stories to be ordinary, but I am yet to meet anyone whose story is ordinary.

As a result of my training and career it is natural for me to have a very strong sense of confidentiality and understanding, along with an ability to encourage people to share their stories while knowing when someone would prefer to remain private. These skills enabled me to become an ethical and respectful audio biographer, helping clients to collate their thoughts and experiences.

My current role with The Audio Biographers is advisory.
